Mastery Journal 11

This is a been a crazy 12 months. Between just separating from the Air Force, moving to a new city, global pandemic, and the New Civil Rights Movement, I was able to learn about an entirely new industry and loved it! I loved it all…except Law. But this is definitely the field for me. Everything in this last course seemed important to learn but I wish the dates fell where we did not have assignments due the weekend of graduation. I have no idea how I did on my marketing plan and pitch, but I had fun putting it together.

According to my DM Mastery Journey Timeline, my goal for the Digital Marketing Campaign Development course was to create and launch a marketing campaign. Which is exactly what I have done. This class is beneficial because I now know and understand all the aspects of the marketing plan and how persuasion of that plan is vital. I have mastered using Keynote for presentations and will be helpful when I have to send presentations remotely to potential clients and/or staff.

Also, I want to thank the Full Sail University staff for such an amazing experience. My first round in college ended quite quickly and honestly, I did not feel smart enough for it. It took me 16 years to go back to college because of the fear of failing again. To be nominated for such a prestigious award is a blessing in itself. I can’t believe I didn’t think I was smart enough to do this. Full Sail has helped rebuild my confidence and hone my professional skills. I cannot thank Full Sail enough, but I am sure I will find away in the future. Best of luck to everyone.

Mastery Reflection 10

I know I’ve said this for almost every class but, Digital Marketing and the Law was by far my most challenging course. Digital Marketing and the Law is a very necessary course, but it had tons of legal jargon that made it difficult for me to understand fully. Professor Downey was extremely patient and passionate about teaching his students the importance of all the subjects we studied. The discussions were challenging but created a diverse dialogue. These assignments will be beneficial for myself when I build my own websites or websites for clients. The Covid-19 Pandemic and the George Floyd Riots added distraction to schoolwork this month, but I managed to do my best regardless.  I am extremely grateful for Full Sail University, the professors, and the curriculum.  It helped me learn everything I need to know for the industry I want to thrive in. I managed to make some wonderful professional connections. I’ve learned to really enjoy putting together Keynote presentations.

Cybercrime and defamation made for interesting subjects and copyrights, privacy policies and terms of use seemed to be the subjects that I will have more experience within my career.

If I had to change anything from this course, it would only be to have an updated textbook and eliminate the Mastery Reflection posts. To me, the posts seemed to be more time consuming versus really getting something from writing them.

Because of Covid, my classmates and I will not be able to walk across the graduate stage however, I am still just as proud to be a graduate from Full Sail University. In the future, I’d love to come back and visit the campus and hopefully, meet some of my amazing professors for this course. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I did well choosing Full Sail for my Master’s degree. This will be a huge component to my Marketing career.

Mastery Reflection 9

The Digital Analytics and Optimization course has been the most challenging course by far. However, it was a ton of fun. Week one made a point of comparing web analytics to the foundation of home. This comparison made sense to me. A webpage needs substance as a solid foundation to be successful. Week two gave a great breakdown and assignment on SMART goals and KPIs. The activity allowed the students to produce professional business proposals. This assignment came in handy in week three’s optimization plan assignment. I enjoyed creating an optimization plan that was professional, fun and on-brand with Soko Glam. As a prior x-ray technologist, the experience of having a Quality Assurance program allowed me to fully understand the purpose of optimization plans. As a marketer, I tend to create daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly checklists to ensure all aspects are covered. These checklists will allow me to stay on top of any trends, issues, concerns, and potential pitfalls. The goal for optimization plans are to continue to improve a website. This course may have been the most important course of the entire Digital Marketing Master’s program.

I think the course could benefit from updated textbook resources. Because the content was stated in 2007, I used online resources to find more update content.

I have fully enjoyed this Marketing program. I believe Full Sail has bridged my gap on marketing and how I will be successfully in my career as a marketer and entrepreneur. I also believe, being enrolled in this course during the COVID-19 pandemic will be make a better problem solver and marketer.

Mastery Reflection 8

This month’s course was Strategic Internet Public Relations. It has been a very interesting and eventful month. On top of the worldwide crisis of the coronavirus, I had some personal issues as well. The goals of this course were to learn how to resolves issues professionally, learn how to effectively provide feedback to customers with negative and positive reviews and learn how to be professionally resilient when dealing with company setbacks. It has become helpful to stay motivated, drive, strong and celebrate all wins. That has allowed me to stay resilient when setbacks occur. It also opens my eyes to how to be proactive instead of reactive to issues. I believe the whole world is learning that right now. It has become very coincidental that we have this course during a real-world crisis. It has also been interesting on how professionals are responding and reacting to the coronavirus. Some brands I totally admire and others I question, but not judge.  I am keeping a mental note ln how established businesses are handling public relations.

As for my case study company, Soko Glam, most issues stem from packaging issues with environmentalists, tainted products or a discrimination case. Discrimination cases are not as common as the other issues. Knowing other cases that have happened with similar companies, gives Soko Glam the head start to know, what to avoid, how to be a forward thinker and develop quick recovery plans.

Nonetheless, I learned quite a lot in this course and I’m grateful. I am excited for the next courses!

Mastery Reflection 7

According to my Digital Mastery Journey timeline, the Advanced Search Engine Optimization course was supposed to teach me the details in search engine and optimization and how to apply that to a business. I’ve received a wealth of knowledge from Professor Jake, it is almost overwhelming.  Also, SEO has become one of my favorite strategies to learn since taking this course. I believe that because it is all new information. I went in every week almost discouraged and came out more confident by the end of the week. I am struggling with budgeting and all the websites that have to be used, but besides that, I find it very fun. All the discussion boards were interesting and engaging, which made for a fun week as well. I would like to redo my PPC Campaign Pitch. There are a few things that I do not have completely down.

These journal posts are starting to become redundant every month. I am starting to feel like I am repeating myself and not gaining anything from these posts. What exactly is the purpose for this assignment, this far in our program?

Regardless of personal feelings, this has been a fun and interactive course this month. I fully enjoyed Professor Jake’s lectures and the articles he provided as well. After every course, my confidence is building, and I know that I’ve chosen the right career field for myself.

The course information is preparing me to start my own business firm and apply these techniques to my personal brands and client’s brands.

Mastery Reflection 6

According to my Digital Marketing Mastery Journey timeline, the Advanced Digital Marketing Strategy course was set to survey and choose the best marketing strategy for Soko Glam. This course was extremely challenging. Every week, I’d log on with fear thinking I wasn’t smart enough for this course. My confidence was lowered, and I would think that I bit off too much to chew.  Fortunately, I was able to tackle every assignment assigned and was given good grades for my work. This course has definitely boosted my confidence in the course and career field. I plan to use what I have learned for future clients and my future businesses. The layout Professor Timi provided was well organized and it made going through weekly work a breeze. In the beginning of this course, I was intimidated with the keynote presentations. I have become more confident about speaking on the presentations, as well as presenting well organized content for the audience to understand.

I pray the corrections I made to the previous action plan parts will help me receive a great grade on the final plan. Professor Timi’s feedback was extremely helpful and I hope I can connect with her on a business level after I graduate.

Overall, the Advanced Digital Marketing Strategy course was fun. The discussion boards could have been a little livelier, but I understand the dynamics of this course, so the discussions had makes complete sense. I appreciate the patience and quick responses from Professor Timi. She really made the class what it was!

Mastery Reflection 5

Reflecting back at my Digital Marketing mastery journal timeline, the goal for the New Marketing Media course was to learn new trends and customize my personal business.  That didn’t necessarily happen, but I took a lot from this course. I really enjoyed the course. The assignments and discussions are fun and engaging. The New Marketing Media course afforded me the experience of learning the differences of customers, fans and influencers and deciding which personas would be best to attract for a marketing campaign. It was enjoyable putting a face to each persona. Throughout this course, I felt my confidence increase after I submitted each assignment. The only drawback I have is that at this point in week 4, I haven’t received any feedback on my assignments. I truly do not know how I’m doing in this course. That is a bit frustrating.

After I receive feedback from the course assignments, I will transfer that information to my final marketing plan and make sure to keep all information for when it is time to create plans for future clients.

My overall take from the New Media Marketing course is that I have the knowledge to put together a solid digital marketing plan for myself and other companies.

Mastery Reflection 4

According to my Digital Marketing mastery journey timeline, my goal for this course was to purchase, design and publish my website. What that tells me is that I had the wrong idea of what this course was going to be. Reflecting back the last four weeks, the one main thing that stands out to me is my comfort level of Keynote. It might not be in direct relation to the course, but I find that important because the beginning of this program, I had no experience with it and was very intimidated. I think I am beginning to enjoy making keynote presentations. As for the course, it did not meet my original objective because I had different perspective of what the class was going to be. However, I learned quite a lot. I absolutely enjoyed learning and conducting a usability test. I foresee conducting this test for future clients and that makes me feel more confident. My favorite discussion happened in week 2 where we had to pretend, we were in the market for a new vehicle and how we would migrate through the website to meet our goals. This completely changed the way I look at websites, especially because I’m such an ecommerce shopper. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll ever look at websites the same again. In the back of my mind, I will always be looking for a better way to do something.

If I was to have any critiques for this course, I would have loved to learn how to build a website. During assignments, I wanted to be able to change a website to how I think it should look, but I don’t know how to do that, so I was left just describing it in text.

Overall, great course and I learned a lot that I can see myself applying to clients’ webpages in the future.

Mastery Reflection 3

My Digital Marketing Mastery Journey timeline states that I would learn target audience behaviors in the Consumer Behavior and Analysis course.  I did just that! Knowing and learning to analyze the behavior of consumers is pivotal to a marketing campaign.  Consumer behavior allows marketers know how and where to market their customers.

Week 1, I enjoyed the breakdown of the decision-making process. I related to the steps as a consumer and understand as a marketer that knowing where your customer is in their decision-making process, can help the marketer reach a lead.

Week 2, I learned a great deal about customer segmentation. Even though I was not happy with the grade I received on my Consumer Segmentation paper, the feedback I received was extremely helpful.

Week 3 allowed me to do some brainstorming on further marketing tactics my case study company can benefit from. While the company has a solid marketing plan currently, I had a few suggestions to expand their customer outreach.

Week 4 had a great discussion on the ethics of behavior targeting. Maintaining my integrity is extremely important to me and mine. I’d definitely would recommend a website to get consent from the consumers for tracking their behavior.  I think people would be surprised how many would be okay with it.

Overall, it was a good course. Some of the content felt repetitive from prior courses in the digital marketing program.  I plan to use the information I learned for my final project and for future clients.

Mastery Reflection 2

According to my Digital Marketing Mastery Journey Timeline, my goals for the Digital Storytelling and Branding course was to enhance branding and digital storytelling skills. While I learned a lot and really enjoyed this course, I fell short bringing my vision forward in a video for the branding story. Week one was fun discussing and learning about my classmates’ brands. I struggled with trying to create a branding statement for myself, but received good feedback. Discussing the differences of Target and Walmart during week two, was extremely fun and right up my alley, as I’m a frequent shopper at both businesses.  One of my classmates, broke down the meanings behind Target and Walmart’s logos, along with the colors. I found his perspective fascinating.  The keynote presentation for the brand’s voice was very challenging for me, but after receiving my grade, it boosted my confidence back up.

Thus far, I’ve learned a lot from the course and on track with my personal goals. Professionally, I plan to build up my personal brand, starting with a detailed but concise branding statement. Figuring out what differentiates my brand from others will probably be most challenging, however I’m not discouraged from mastering it.

For my final project, I plan to incorporate what I’ve learned and revamp my branding story and strategy for the best digital marketing campaign.

I’m very curious on how my classmates did on their brand story. I struggled the most with this assignment. While I received good feedback, my lack of video and editing skills have me feeling defeated and not quite sure if that will be a strong point for me in my career, educationally or professionally.

In all, it was a great course. I was challenged, learned a lot and the discussions were really fun.
